Iswap claims to have killed 10 Nigerian Army soldiers during recent attack in Borno State

TERRORIST sect the Islamic State West Africa Province (Iswap) has claimed to have killed 10 Nigerian soldiers during a recent raid on a Nigerian army military facility in Rann in Borno State.

On Monday this week, the sect attacked a military base and villages in the Rann area, during which troops, civilians and aid workers fled in different directions as the terrorists stormed the town with guntrucks and motorcycles. Raan is the headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area and during the attack, the terrorists shot indiscriminately targeting government forces and equipment.

An Iswap spokesman said: “With Allah’s grace, we have killed 10 Nigerian soldiers, wounded many, while the rest ran away in Rann, Borno State. The spoils of war we got three devices, many arms and ammunition.”

Iswap added that it burnt the army barracks in Rann, destroyed two tanks, and then its fighters safely returned to their base. After the attack, however, troops regained control of Raan after Major General Christopher Musa, the theatre commander deployed more soldiers and assets.

Brigadier Abdulwahab Eyitayo, the acting general officer commanding the Seventh Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army, was said to have led the counter-operation. According to the Nigerian military high command, both sides suffered losses, although no official statement has been issued yet.
