Armed bandits attack Nigerian Defence Academy killing two officers and abducting another

NIGERIA'S ongoing security crisis has took an unprecedented step for the worse this morning when armed gunmen had the effrontery to attack the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna killing two officers.

 

Of late, insecurity has grown to epidemic levels in Nigeria with bandits, Fulani cattle herdsmen, kidnappers, rapists and armed gunmen all operating with impunity. So brazen have they become of late, that police stations are being attacked and the overwhelmed security forces are hapless in the face of the crisis.

 

This morning at around 1.30am, things went a step further when a  large number of armed bandits attacked the NDA campus in Afaka, Kaduna State. During the attack, Lieutenant Commander Wulah and Flight Lieutenant CM Okoronkwo were shot dead, while Major Datong was kidnapped and Second Lieutenant Onah sustained gunshot wounds.

 

NDA spokesman Major Bashir Jajira, said, “We lost two personnel and one was abducted. However, the NDA community and cadets are safe in the academy and we assure the general public that these unknown gunmen would soon be apprehended and the abducted personnel rescued.”

 

He added that the bandits gained access into the residential area of the academy in Afaka and were able to carry out their crime. According to Major Jajira the NDA, in collaboration with the First Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army, the Air Training Command and other security agencies in Kaduna, have commenced pursuit of the assailants.
