10 tasks the new Olu of Itshekiri should set himself over the next decade

Ayo Akinfe

[1] Attract international investors to come and take over the Aladja Steel Company. Get it employing at least 500 staff and producing about 10,000 tonnes a year

[2] Get the Warri Refinery and Petrochemicals Company located at Ekpan, upgraded into a major research and development facility of global repute

[3] Try and raise the literacy rate among the Itshekiri to about 95%

[4] Draw up plans to make the Otorogu Gas Plant at Otujeremi Nigeria’s primary supplier of cooking gas with pipelines linking it to every state capital

[5] Seek to end oil bunkering in Warri. Do this by training all the youths involved. Warri should boast of the best oil industry technicians in the world

[6] Nigeria has hundreds of oil wells and dozens of oil rigs, yet we manufacture none. Attract investors to make Warri the global centre of petroleum machinery equipment

[7] Upgrade the Nana Living History Museum into a world class tourist facility. Nana of Olomu was one of pre-colonial Nigeria’s greatest figures. He is not venerated enough in my opinion

[8] Ask the federal government to make the Federal University of Petroleum Resource Effurun the Harvard of the global crude oil industry. Offer them land to build as many adjoining colleges as possible

[9] Get local wealthy  indigenes like Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor to invest in the city, creating jobs

[10] Attract investors to the port of Warri. Get it dredged and hooked up by rail to Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Onitsha, Kaduna, Kano, Jos, Lokoja, etc. Make Warri at least as busy a port as Apapa
