Everton reported to be planning a sale of Iwobi in search of cash for team building

ENGLISH Premier League giants Everton are said to be planning to sell Super Eagles playmaker before the closure of the August transfer window to generate funds to purchase other players as part of a team strengthening programme.

In the summer of 2019, Iwobi left Arsenal and joined league rivals Everton in a £40m deal that involved him signing a five year contract with the Merseyside club nicknamed The Toffees. Iwobi, 25, who rose through the youth ranks at Arsenal, breaking into the first-team squad in 2015 and went on to make 149 appearances for the north Londoners, became Nigeria's most expensive transfer ever after moving to Everton.

Football website Owngoal, gas reported, however, that Everton are now looking to offload the midfielder according to one of the club's former strikers Marcus Bent. According to bent who spent two seasons at Everton making 55 appearances, the club wants to sell Iwobi before the transfer window closes so it can use that money to strengthen other areas of the team.

Bent said: "Everton are talking about getting rid of him. They want to get him off the wage bill as he is a good player but he hasn't had the time to play or show his quality, so I think they want to move him on."

Since joining Everton, Iwobi has  only made 66 appearance and only has four goals and four assists to his name. Last weekend, Iwobi came on midway through the second half in Everton's 3-1 victory over Southampton and provided an assist for the second goal.
