Super Eagles striker Nwankwo Simy set to snub Spurs and remain in Italy with Salernitana

SUPER Eagles striker Nwankwo Simy is set to snub a move to English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in favour of a move to newly-promoted Italian club Salernitana ahead of the start of the Serie A season which begins next Saturday.

Italy's  2021/22 league season begins on Saturday August 21 and Salernitana are looking to strengthen their team in the hope of maintaining their position in the top flight. Nwankwo, 29, spent last season at fellow Italian side Crotone but they were relegated to Serie B and are now prepared to release the player to reduce their wage bill.

Salernitana, who are preparing for their first season back in the Italian top-flight since 1999, could get for a cut-price of £5m. Last season, Nwankwo managed to score 20 goals in the league, which brought him to the attention of several clubs across Europe, with Tottenham's director of football Fabio Paratici, being one of his big fans.

Spurs had eyed Nwankwo as a possible replacement for Harry Kane who is expected to leave the club before the close of the transfer window at the end of August.  However, it now appears that Nwankwo prefers to stay in Italy instead where he has lived since 2016 when he joined Crotone.
