Nigeria's UK high commissioner treats embassy team after they lift diplomatic missions' trophy

NIGERIA'S high commissioner to the UK Chief Sarafa Ishola recently hosted the victorious Embassy Team that won the Ambassadors Cup involving all the diplomatic missions in Britain after they beat Spain in the final.

After a gruelling tournament that involved the numerous diplomatic missions in the UK, the Nigerian team emerged victorious, bringing home the trophy for the first time. Recognising them for their heroics, Chief Ishola hosted them to a dinner at Abuja House, the official residence of the Nigerian high commissioner in the UK.

Treating the team alongside the heads of departs at the high commission, Chief Ishola and his wife Mrs Saliat Ishola handed the team members gifts on the day. They were assisted by Ayo Akinfe, the chairman of the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (Canuk) who helped hand out goodies to the players.

Chief Ishola said: "Once more we have had a group of Nigerians who have done the nation proud and helped dispel the negative narratives. We are the mission will always support this team and provide you with whatever assistance is required.

"As a people, we always seek to excel, which can be witnessed in what we are doing in international organisations worldwide. A Nigerian is the head of the World Trade Organisation, a Nigerian is the deputy secretary general of the United Nations and a Nigerian is the chairman of the African Development Bank."

Mr Akinfe added: "We are the world's largest black nation and despite the challenges we have as a country, always have a knack of making a mark. You have done Nigeria proud once again as many other Nigerians have done from time to time over the years."

Expressing gratitude to the high commissioner, the players promised to try and win more trophies in the future. They added that it was honour to represent Nigeria and carry the hopes of 200m Nigerians.
