Governor Obiano threatens to sack any civil servant who obeys Ipob sit-at-home order

GOVERNOR Willie Obiano of Anambra State has threatened all civil servants who dare abstain from work tomorrow in observance of an Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) sit-at-home directive that they will be sacked.

Over recent years, there has been a growing clamour for secession across the southeast geo-political zone led by Ipob. This agitation has been fuelled by the murderous activities of Fulani cattle herdsmen, the perceived marginalisation of Igbos when it comes to federal appointments and the lack of fiscal federalism.

As part of its campaign for secession, Ipob has called for a sit-at-home tomorrow. In the past, such sit-at-home calls have been very successful as they have been observed by large segments of the population across the southeast geo-political zone.

In response, Governor Obiano has threatened not to pay August salaries to any worker who abstains from work on Monday. Barry Harry Uduh, the Anambra State government head of service directed all commissioners and permanent secretaries to monitor the situation and report accordingly.

He added: “The government of Anambra State has directed that all workers in the state must attend to their duties on Monday 9 August 2021, as failure to do so will result in severe sanctions including loss of salary for the month of August. All commissioners and permanent secretaries are to monitor and report compliance please."
