Nigeria desperately needs an Environmental and Climate Change Bill to address the following challenges

Ayo Akinfe

[1] Incessant erosion in the southeast geo-political zone
[2] Encroaching desertification in the northeast and northwest
[3] The advancing Atlantic Ocean in Lagos
[4] The River Benue over-flooding its banks every year
[5] The reckless use of generators and the diesel fumes this releases into the atmosphere
[6] We need to end gas flaring in the Niger Delta permanently
[7] Every local government area must be compelled to open at least one landfill site as waste and debris litter the entire country
[8] Every local government must be compelled to open at least 50 public toilets to end the menace of open defecation
[9] It must be illegal to encroach any further on our receding tropical rain forest. They are described as the lungs of the earth
[10] We need Municipal Metropolis Act which compels administrators to provide green spaces in every urban centre
