Today is July 14 and on this day in 1789, the French stormed the Bastille Prison demanding good governance. Here are 10 things Nigerians should be marching for in their millions today demanding from their government

Ayo Akinfe

[1] An end to the incessant insecurity which has made kidnapping the most lucrative industry in Nigeria today. It only thrives because the government looks the other way. With the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, we have seen how the government can act when it wants to

[2] An immediate end to the fuelling of ethnic divisions and the promotion of nepotism. Nigerians are more divided along ethnic lines today than ever before in our history

[3] An end to the practise of our leaders going abroad for medical treatment while our own healthcare system remains in ruins. Public service is about sacrifice, so every public servant should be prepared to die in Nigeria

[4] A ban on public officials sending their children abroad to study. Anyone not prepared to send their offspring to Nigerian schools and universities should not stand for public office

[5] Nigeria has got to stop importing what it does not manufacture. Anything we do not produce, we do not need

[6] Our federal allocation formula guarantees perpetual poverty and under-development. It has to be scrapped in favour of an arrangement that makes our states productive

[7] It must be a criminal offence to export any primary product without adding at least 50% value to it

[8] With the whole world moving towards electric automobiles, Nigeria has got to end this fixation with crude oil. Governors must be given targets and forced to attract electric car manufacturers into their states

[9] We need to scrap the immunity clause for public officials. Everyone in public office must be accountable for the funds allocated to them. Maybe the day we jail a sitting governor corruption will end in Nigeria

[10] Nigerians need 24 hour electricity supply. We currently only generate about 7,000MW and can only transit 4,000MW. We need to be able to generate, distribute and transmit about 50,000MW
