Taiwo Awoniyi eyes playing in the Premier League after joining Liverpool's pre-season training camp

SUPER Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi is in pole position to feature in the English Premier League this season after he joined his club Liverpool for its pre-season training session at Salzburg in Austria yesterday.

Awoniyi, 23, signed for Liverpool in 2015 but has spent the last six seasons out on loan in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Last season, he played for Union Berlin in Germany's Bundesliga and now that he has been given permission to play in England, several Premier League clubs are believed to have indicated they may want to buy him from Liverpool.

Already, Liverpool have rejected a £5m ($7m) approach from Belgian giants Anderlecht, who remain interested in the striker. Liverpool's  valuation for Awoniyi, who joined the Reads a fee of around £400,000, stands at around £8m ($11m), given his encouraging performances in the Bundesliga this season.

There is a possibility that Awoniyi may be sent out on loan again but yesterday, he trained with the Liverpool first team in Austria. He has a chance to play his way into the heart of Jurgen Klopp or may be sold permanently.

In Austria, Awoniyi would have adequate time to impress his manager as the likes of Firminio and Jota are still away resting due to their participation at the Copa America and Euro 2020. In 2013, Awoniyi represented Nigeria, winning the U17 World Cup in Dubai, playing alongside Kelechi Iheanacho.
