Buhari postpones today's planned medical visit to his London doctors until further notice

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari postponed his planned visit to London that was scheduled for today during which he was due to meet with his personal doctors for a follow-up medical check-up.

On March 30, President Buhari embarked on a medical trip to London for a routine medical check-up, returning to Nigeria two weeks later. Today, he was due to arrive for a follow-up by presidential spokesman Femi Adesina revealed that the trip has been postponed, although he did not give any reason for the postponement.

Mr Adesina said: The medical follow-up visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the United Kingdom, earlier scheduled for today, Friday 25, 2021, has been postponed. A new date will be announced in due course."

Originally, President Buhari had been due back in the country during the second week of July, meaning he would have spent three weeks in London. His March trip had attracted widespread criticism in Nigeria as it took place at a time when the National Association of Resident Doctors (Nard) was planning industrial action.

Yesterday, Nard  issued a fresh four-week ultimatum to the federal and state governments to address its demands including the payment of hazard allowances. It lamented the failure of the government to fulfil the conditions it laid down with led to the suspension of its strike in April, including the payment of Covid-19 hazard allowances.
