Falcons scrape 3-3 draw with Portugal thanks to injury time equaliser from Rasheedat Ajibade

NIGERIA'S Super Falcons managed to secure a draw in last night's match against Portugal in ongoing the Summer Series Invitational Tournament in the US after scoring a last minute equaliser in stoppage time to level the score at 3-3.

Having lost their first game to Jamaica 0-1, the Falcons went into this match knowing they had to get something out of it but got off to a bad start. They went down 0-2 at the start of the game and were trailing 1-3 in the second half but managed to salvage a draw thanks to a last gasp goal from Rasheedat Ajibade.

Super Falcons’ coach Randy Waldrum hailed the performance of the players for the dramatic comeback. He praised the resilience of his women but warned that the team must work on their defensive frailties to have a chance against hosts the US on Thursday.

Mr Waldrum said: “I’m so proud of you girls with the fight we had and the way we came back. You were down by two goals two times in the game and you still mustered a comeback.

"It is a very difficult task to do but you stayed on and kept on pushing. You still have a lot to work on absolutely we will continue from here.

“This is something we are going to build on to make us better to show that we are a good team and that we can fight and come back. That we are always in the team until the end of the game.”
