Given the emphasis the G7 leaders are placing on climate change I think President Buhari should send them these clean energy proposals

[1] By 2025, Nigeria wants to get all new industrial concerns to generate their own power. No new industrial start-ups will from henceforth be dependent on the national grid for their power supply. We want companies in G7 nations to bear this in mind when coming to Nigeria

[2] We will get Innoson Motors, out biggest local manufacturer to start manufacturing solar panels as they are the most needed piece of industrial equipment in Nigeria today. We will welcome investors to take out a stake in the company

[3] Our government will offer interest-free loans in conjunction with banks to anyone who wants to buy a solar panel. Within two years, we aim to have numerous solar millionaires as happened with the GSM market

[4] Nigeria will pass laws compelling every one of our 774 local government areas to have a microgrid connecting all the homes and businesses within its jurisdiction. Foreign direct investment is welcome in the sector

[5] Each state government in Nigeria will from henceforth be given a power generation target. As such, we want international investors to enter into partnerships with our state governments

[6] Nigeria will place a punitive tax on solar panels imports of about 300% to force manufacturers to locate their plants in the country. However, G7 companies that open local plants will be given five year tax holidays

[7] Nigeria plans to build four offshore waste-to-power plants in Eta Oko, Brass, Nembe and Umon Island with an electrify generation target of about 5,000MW. We will also engage global customers with international waste delivered by sea. Foreign investors are needed here too

[8] It is estimated that around 3% of global annual plastic waste enters the oceans each year. An estimated 299m tonnes of plastics were produced in 2013 but in 2025, the annual input is estimated to be about twice greater. The global plastic waste management market was valued at approximately $24bn in 2017 and is expected to generate revenue of around $29.8bn by the end of 2024. Nigeria wants to be a major player in this sector

[9] Nigeria plans to have a 800km wind farm along its Atlantic coastline stretching from Calabar to Badagry. A power plant will be built on the coast to convert all this power to electricity, with our target being to create 100,000 jobs.

[10] We also plan to open factories that will convert waste into finished goods as is done elsewhere. For instance, in Beijing, Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde constructed the Smog Free Tower that captures carbon from the atmosphere, refines it and releases the clean air back into the city and then converts the compact carbon into diamonds. This technology is incredibly effective as the air around the tower is 55% to 75% cleaner than the rest of the city. This tower, which has been used in Rotterdam, Beijing, Tianjin and Dalian, sucks up 30,000 cubic meters of polluted air per hour
