Nigerian youngster Steve Ezeonu elected city councillor in Texas at the tender age of 22

NIGERIAN youngster Steve Ezeonu has become a councillor in the US after winning the  city council run-off elections for Grand Pierre in the state of Texas with 51.2% of the vote against 48.8% for his opponent.

Mr Ezeonu, 22, secured 3,903 votes to beat his closest rival, Greg Giessner, who garnered 3,720 votes in the June 5 run-off election. She has already been congratulated by Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chair of the Nigeria Diaspora Commission, who said his victory was hard-earned but well-deserved and it proves that hard work and dedication to duty pays.

She added that she was not surprised by Mr Ezeonu’s victory because his resilience, dedication and doggedness contributed to his success at that age. Hon Dabiri-Erewa said that she had contacted Mr Ezeonu earlier before the election to give him words of encouragement and support.

Hon Dabiri-Erewa urged other Nigerians to emulate Mr Ezeonu’s feat and strive to excel in their pursuits as hard work is the key to success, while urging them also to continue to demonstrate the spirit of resilience imbibed in Nigerians. She also advised Mr Ezeonu to fulfil all his electoral promises to the electorate as he has a lot of opportunities ahead of him in the future.

She expressed appreciation to the Nigerian community in Texas for giving him their maximum support. Mr Ezeonu was elected on the platform of the Democratic Party and beat his Republican opponent in the race.
