Brentford look to sign Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka as they join Premier League

NEWLY-promoted English Premier League side Brentford may make Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka its first signing after indications that it has initiated talks with his Danish club Midtjylland about a €13.4m transfer.

Onyeka, 23, a promising anchorman tipped to rise to the very top, joined Midtjylland in January 2016 and made his Super Eagles debut in October last year in a friendly game against Algeria. In January this year, Brentford, who were chasing promotion to the English Premier League from the Championship, entered into a gentleman's agreement with Midtjylland to purchase Onyeka should they go up.

Now that Brentford have been promoted after winning the Championship play-off final, a transfer to the Premier League may be imminent. Brentford owner Matthew Benham is also the majority shareholder of FC Midtjylland, hence there is a possibility of the London club signing players from the Superliga side as the two clubs are affiliated.

Midtjylland rejected offers for the midfielder, retaining Onyeka for the 2020/21 season due to the club's participation in last season's Champions League. He is regarded as a good box-to-box midfielder who acts as a good shield in front of the defence.
