FORMER presidential candidate and Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore is currently receiving treatment in an Abuja hospital after a policewoman fired a teargas canister at him ahead of a planned protest.
Sowore, who stood against President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential elections, has since founded the group #RevolutionNow. It had planned to hold a protest in Abuja today and gathered at the Unity Fountain to commence a march when the protesters were confronted by the police.
During the altercation, Mr Sowore was shot by a female police officer who fired a teargas canister at him. He has since been rushed to hospital for medical treatment and it is not believed that his injuries are serious.
Sowore said: “Just been shot by a police officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Atine at the Unity Fountain in Abuja. #RevolutionNow, let the struggle continue even if they take my life! #BuhariMustGo.”
