Nigerian fans in the UK hope Tomori opts for Super Eagles after being snubbed by England

NIGERIAN football fans are hopeful that former Chelsea centreback Fikayo Tomori may now opt to play for the Super Eagles after being snubbed by England manager Gareth Southgate when he recently announced his Euro 2021 squad.

 

Yesterday, Mr Southgate announced a 33-man provisional squad for the forthcoming European championships, which did not include Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori. Both players were courted by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) but opted for England, however, Tomori, who now plays for AC Milam, is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles as he only has one England cap.

 

Other players of Nigerian extraction omitted from Southgate's squad include Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Dele Alli and Chelsea star Ross Barkley. However, Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka did make the squad and will be hoping to make the final list of 26 when it is announced on June 1.

 

Super Eagles fans are now hoping that Tomori will react to the snub by choosing to play for Nigeria at senior level. Other English Premier League stars Nigerian football fans hope feature for the Super Eagles soon include Ebere Eze and Michael Olise.
