Super Eagles to play friendly against Mexico's El Tri in Los Angeles on July 3

NIGERIA'S Super Eagles will play a friendly against the  Mexican national team the El Tri at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 3 as part of their preparations for the forthcoming African Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

In September, Nigeria will get her World Cup qualifiers underway and in January next year, the Eagles will compete in the African Cup of Nations taking place in neighbouring Cameroon. Mexico and Nigeria last met in a friendly match en route to the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil when they played out a 0-0 draw. This will be the sixth meeting between both sides with them playing draws five times and Mexico winning once by two goals to one during a US Gold Cup fixture in Texas.

Fifa match agent Jairo Pachon, said: “We are happy to be able to announce this match, which is a clash between two very big teams from two different continents. Mexico against Nigeria is a big match any day and the venue is class.”

Nigeria is zoned in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers alongside Cape Verde, Liberia and the Central African Republic. Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr will be hoping to qualify for and attend Qatar 2022 as African champions.
