Inspector-general appoints new Imo State police commissioner with a mandate to end violence

INSPECTOR-general of police Usman Baba has appointed Abutu Yaro as the new Imo State police commissioner with a strict mandate to combat the growing menace of insecurity there that has resulted in the recent attacks on public facilities.

Over recent weeks, armed gunmen has attacked police stations across Imo State and ransacked correctional facilities, freeing prison inmates. Aiming to combat the menace, Mr Baba has appointed Police Commissioner Abutu Yaro and sent him to Imo State immediately.

Nigeria Police Force  spokesman, Frank Mba, said the development seeks to strengthen security, tackle violent crimes and enhance optimal coordination of policing operations in Imo. Mr Yaro is a fellow of the National Defence College and the immediate-past commissioner of the Zamfara State Police Command.

Mr Yaro takes over from Nasiru Mohammed who has been redeployed to Western Port Authority, Lagos. Similarly, Hussaini Rabiu has been named as the new Zamfara State police commissioner while John Amadi has been posted from the Western Port Authority, Lagos to Airport Police Command, Ikeja,.

As part of the changes, Police Commissioner Anderson Bankole is now in charge of the Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos. Also, Police Commissioner Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu was posted to the Department of Finance and Administration, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Mr Baba urged the officers to bring to bear their professional experience to improve policing and restore public confidence. he also assured members of the public of the determination of the Nigeria Police Force to improve public safety and tackle all forms of crimes in Nigeria.
