10 things President Buhari could do today to end this violence and growing agitation for the balkanisation of Nigeria

Ayo Akinfe

(1) Declare the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (Macban) and its splinter groups terrorist organisations

(2) Send a bill to the National Assembly outlawing open grazing

(3) Announce details of a Fulani disarmament plan under which he will pledge to recover every single AK47 in the hands of these herdsmen

(4) Invite African Union troops in to deal with the most dangerous groups like Boko Haram and the Fulani Nationalist Movement (Funam) as the Nigerian Army appears to be unable to defeat them single-handedly

(5) Send a bill to the National Assembly detailing a gradual move towards fiscal federalism and resource control. By 2030, this process should be complete

(6) As an act of goodwill, replace the inspector-general of police with a man or woman from the southeast, the most marginalised geo-political zone under his administration

(7) He should come out openly and declare his support for the 2023 presidency going to the southeast geo-political zone. Those candidates of northern extraction and agitators  opposed to rotation should be denounced as vandals

(8) Make a pledge that all appointments he makes between now and the end of his tenure will adhere to the Ahmadu Bello principle of a 50:50 split between the north and south of the country

(9) Establish a specialist anti-terror battalion in the Nigerian Army, giving it a free hand to eliminate the bandits, kidnappers, herdsmen, terrorists, etc as it sees fit. As an act of sincere intention, the commander of this unit should be either Tiv, Agatu or Idoma

(10) Announce an immediate amnesty for Nnamdi Kanu and enter into dialogue with Ipob. The plan should be to get it to hand over the Eastern Security Network to the South East Governors Forum
