Ibadan magistrates courts remands Fulani herdsman leader Abdullahi Wakili in custody

FULANI herdsmen leader Alhaji Abdullahi Wakili has been remanded in custody by the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan after his case was heard today in which he was charged with six counts of violence including murder and kidnapping.

Regarded as a notorious Fulani warlord who has terrorised Ibarapaland, Alhaji Wakili, 70, has been charged with six offences including conspiracy, murder, kidnapping and armed robbery. He was charged alongside his sons Abu, 45 and Samaila, 27, as well as Aliyu Manu, 20 in Ibadan today.

Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Idowu, who listened to the case, remanded them at the Abolongo Correctional facility in Oyo State. He then adjourned the matter until May 17, for mention after Oritsuwa Uwawa appeared for all the suspects.

Prosecution counsel Adewale Amos, told the court that Alhaji Wakili, Abu, Samaila and Manu on October 20, 2015 conspired to kill 32-year-old Akinwale Akande. Mr Amos also alleged that on August 15, 2020, at about 4pm in Idi–Emi, Oyo State, Alhaji Wakili and others kidnapped a woman while armed with cutlasses and axes, robbing her of N100,000

He said the offence also contravened the provisions of sections 3, 6, and were punishable under section 4 (2) of the Kidnapping (Prohibition ) Law 2016 and Section 6b of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act .Cap RII, Vol.14, Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and section (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions). Alhaji Wakili and his accomplices were arrested by men of the Oodua Peoples Congress in Oyo State

Before Alhaji Wakili’s arrest, farmers and residents of Ayete, Kajola and neighbouring villages in Ibarapaland lived in perpetual fear of him. He was accused of displacing them from their farms, kidnapping their rich men and raping their women.
