Wolverhampton Wanderers eye Super Eagles centreback Chigozie Awaziem in transfer window

ENGLISH Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers are among several high profile European clubs looking to sign Super Eagles centreback Chigozie Awaziem during the January transfer window.

Awaziem, 23, is currently a Porto players but is out on loan to fellow Portuguese side Boavista for the current season. He has been one of the shining lights in a struggling Boavista side that is battling relegation at the foot of the table and as such has attracted the attention of the likes of that Borussia Monchengladbach, Valencia and Wolves.

However, Boavista is keen on keeping the player too, as their loan deal includes an option to buy him at the end of the season. Boavista is keen to exercise this purchase option to keep the player as his contract with Porto expires at the end of the season.

Awaziem has started 11 games for them this season, having only missed the one against Porto due to contractual reasons. When still belonging to Porto last summer, Awaziem had a release clause of €30m and the club may want that much for him before letting him go.

Under the terms of the loan deal Boavista signed with Porto at the start of the season, Awaziem is expected to sign a permanent four-year contract on 30 June 2021. However, this could be set aside if a big offer comes in for the defender with 17 international caps from a club like Wolves.
