William Ekong donates food items and materials to motherless babies home in Uyo

SUPER Eagles centreback William Troost-Ekong has donated food items and materials for the motherless babies home in Uyo as part of his contribution towards ameliorating the effects of the coronavirus economic crisis in Nigeria.

Ekong, 27, who plays his club football with English Championship side Watford, is a native of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital. Born in the Netherlands to a Dutch mother, Eleanore Troost and a Nigerian father, Ekong kicked off his playing career in England playing in the youth teams of Fulham and Tottenham Hotspurs.

He subsequently had the option of featuring for either the Netherlands, England or Nigeria but opted for the Super Eagles, making his senior international debut on 13 June 2015 in an African nations Cup qualifying match against Chad. He now has 44 caps and two goals to his name but his position may be under threat given that he now plays in the second tier of English football.

Putting his football worries aside, Ekong donated the food items and materials to the home in Uyo yesterday.  Reverend Sister Maltida Umana, the nun in charge of Mother Charles Walker home took delivery of the items and wished Ekong all the best for his gesture.
