Maybe Nigeria should appoint Detective Sergeant Babatunde Fashola as the new head of the EFCC

Ayo Akinfe

(1) We may be laughing about the investigative capacity of Detective Fashola but what if he uncovered some brilliant clues at the Lekki Toll Gate that could lead to the conviction of the murderers who shot our youths?

(2) Bear in mind that Detective Fashola is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, so will have some experience of criminal law and investigation

(3) Do you know that when Robert Kennedy wanted to combat corruption in Chicago, what he did as attorney general was get together a group of young lawyers known as G-Men. They were hugely successful

(4) Also, Robert Kennedy made a name for himself between 1957 and 1959 while serving as the chief counsel to the Senate's McClellan Committee under chairman John L. McClellan. He took on known vested interest groups like the Teamsters boss Eric Hoffa. Fashola can do the same, taking on our vested interest groups as EFCC boss

(5) From what I can see, Detective Fashola is the closest thing we have to Robert Kennedy in Nigeria and should be named as Ibrahim Magu’s replacement as the EFCC boss. They actually have the same background

(6) I would particularly like Detective Fashola to introduce the Fintiri treatment for looters. Yesterday, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State gave all those who looted gari and rice 48 hours to return these items or the C of Os of the houses where they are kept will be revoked and the buildings demolished

(7) Would it not be lovely if this Fintiri Formula was extended to treasury looters? I would love it if as EFCC chairman, Detective Fashola revokes the C of O of every church and mosque that receives stolen funds from politicians

(8) Just imagine how corruption would abate in Nigeria if every bank that helped launder money had the C of O on its building revoked

(9) I do not agree with demolishing buildings though. I would rather take them over and convert them into schools, clinics, libraries, hospitals, post offices, etc

(10) Given Detective Fashola’s penchant for CCTV, as EFCC chairman, I would expect him to instal special cameras in all government offices, banks, political party headquarters and all other places where corruption normally takes place
