UK Charities Commission says it is still investigating Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries

BRITAIN's Charity Commission has reaffirmed that Adam Stephens remains the interim manager of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International following his 2018 appointment in response to investigations of the church's operations.

On March 2018, the Charities Commission launched an investigation into the activities of the church founded by Daniel Olukoya amid concerns that it repeatedly failed to submit returns and financial information on time and the fact that its accounts for 2014 and 2015 were qualified by its auditors. In addition, the commission also found two alleged incidents of fraud by former employees involving significant sums, both of which were not reported until a number of years after the frauds were discovered.

Charities Commission spokeswoman Stefanie Mair, said: “Adam Stephens remains in post as interim Manager of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International where his duties include reviewing the charity’s financial and governance processes, inspecting a number of the charity’s branches and their handling of serious incidents. Our inquiry into the charity remains ongoing and as such we are unable to comment further at this time so as to avoid prejudicing the outcome of the inquiry.

"We intend to publish a full report setting out our findings on conclusion of the inquiry.”

Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International operates through a network of approximately 40 separate branches, which are allowed a degree of autonomy from the main charity in respect of administration and financial matters. However, the Charities Commission has identified concerns as to the adequacy of the trustees’ oversight and control over the individual branches.
