Glasgow Rangers look to sign third Nigerian player as it eyes Bordeaux striker Josh Maja

SCOTTISH football giants Glasgow Rangers have taken an interest in another Nigerian player with a view to signing Bordeaux striker Josh Maja ahead of the 2020/21 season as a replacement for the injured Jermain Defoe.

Rangers, who already have Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo on its books, offered centreback Leon Balogun a one year contract last week.  With the Scottish season set to start in August, Rangers are looking to sign up Maja to lead their forward line as Defoe is injured and Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos, is expected to leave for Lille.

Get French Football News has tweeted that Rangers will open transfer talks with Maja next week. Maja had a direct hand in 11 goals last season, including scoring eight times and providing three assists from 24 matches over the course of the 2019/20 campaign despite his limited playing opportunities.

Maja, 21, is represented by Emeka Obasi who brokered the deals that took Joe Aribo and Sheyi Ojo to Rangers last summer and Golden Eaglets invitee Malcolm Ebiowei to the club in February 2020. If he manages to get the club to sign Maja, it could mean three Nigerians featuring in the starting line-up for the club next season.
