Spurs put in last minute bid for Osimhen hoping to snatch him away from Italian side Napoli

TOTTENHAM Hotspurs are planning a last minute raid for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the hope that they can scupper an €81m bid by Italian side Napoli to purchase him from Lille and bring the player to White Hart Lane.

Osimhen, 21, is one of the hottest properties in Europe at the moment after scoring18 goals for Lille in the 2019/20 season, helping the club finish fourth in the French league. Over recent months, he has been the subject of a lot of speculation, with several English clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspurs and Chelsea all linked with him.

Over recent days, Napoli have concluded a deal to purchase the striker from his French club Lille, offering Osimhen a five year contract that involved manager Gunaro Gatusso taking a pay cut to help finance the deal. Napoli is confident of finalising the transfer before the end of this week but Spurs have made a last minute entry, hoping to scupper the deal.

Other Premier League clubs linked with a move for Osimhen include Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Liverpool but so far, none of them have made any serious bids for the striker. In Europe, the likes of AC Milan and Barcelona have also been linked with Osimhen but only Napoli have been able to meet Lille's asking price.

Spurs will be hoping to exploit Osimhen's fears over the racism still prevalent in Italian football, which had made him reluctant to commit to the Napoli deal before now. However, the club will have a dilemma about how to play a striker who costs that much alongside the England skipper Harry Kane, who currently leads the Spurs attack.
