PDP chides Ganduje over his comments that the party was out to loot the Edo State treasury

PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) officials have chided the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the Edo governorship election Governor Abdullahi Ganduje saying there is no cash for him to loot in Benin.

Last week, the APC named Governor Ganduje as the chairman of its campaign team as the September gubernatorial elections approach. In the elections, the APC candidate Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu will be standing against incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki, who defected to the PDP and has been nominated as its candidate.

Surprisingly, Governor Ganduje was named as the head of the APC campaign team despite the fact that last year, he was filmed accepting bribes from a state contractor and stuffing the dollar notes into his agbada. Governor Ganduje has seen been the butt of many jokes in Nigeria and this latest high profile position makes a mockery of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign against corruption.

Earlier this week, Governor Ganduje upped the ante when he said that the PDP only welcomed Governor Obaseki into their fold so they could loot the Edo State treasury. In a swift response the PDP told Governor Ganduje that there will be no dollars available for him to loot in Edo State, describing him as a barefaced treasury looter.

PDP publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the Kano State governor has no moral rectitude to speak on corruption. He said he wondered how Governor Ganduje, could accuse the PDP of corruption intentions.

Mr Ologbondiyan added: “Apparently, Governor Ganduje and other APC leaders are so used to looting public treasuries that such is his first mental direction after his inauguration to lead the Edo governorship campaign. Governor Ganduje has further confirmed the real intention of the APC, which is to use their morally embattled candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu for their desperate effort to regain access to the Edo State treasury, after Governor Godwin Obaseki liberated the state from the stranglehold of APC treasury-looting godfathers.

“Our party invites Governor Ganduje to note that there is no free dollars for him and other APC leaders to loot in Edo State. Moreover, Governor Ganduje, with his infamous Gandollar video, is no match for the chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for the Edo election, Governor Nyesom Wike.”
