Nigeria to open five airports for domestic flights on June 21 but international travel will remain banned

NIGERIAN aviation authorities have revealed that they will open five of the country's airports on June 21 as part of the government's gradual lifting of the restrictions imposed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

In March, Nigeria closed all her international and domestic airports in the wake of the pandemic but with the gradual return to normality, they will now be re-opened. On June 21, the airports in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and Owerri will all be opened for domestic flights.

Nigeria's other airports will remained closed for further assessment, while international flights too will not be permitted yet. Captain. Musa Nuhu, the director-general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), said that other airports will be opened after their safety conditions have been reviewed.

Captain Nuhu added: “The gradual start of domestic flight operations will commence on 21st June 2020 with Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Kano, Omagwa International Airport Port Harcourt, and Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri. Other airports will be gradually added to the network after a review and assessment.”
