Liverpool opens talks with Osimhen in a bid to bring him to England next season

ENGLISH Premier League giants Liverpool have opened talks with Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen with a view to bringing him to Merseyside when the 2020/21 season league resumes later in the year.

Over the last month and a half, all football activities have been suspended but talks have been taking place between the Premier League and the British government about resuming the 2019/20 season soon. Several clubs have started training again and while there have been no matches, most clubs have begun talks with several players they want to sign next season.

Osimhen, 21, is one of the hottest properties in Europe at the moment, after his impressive performance for Lille in the French Ligue One during the current campaign. He joined the French outfit from Sporting Charleroi for €12m in August 2019 and still has another four-and-a-half-year left on his contract but many European giants want him for next season.

With his current form where he scored 13 goals from 27 league matches, Osimhen is almost certain to leave Lille. Among the clubs said to be seeking his services include Inter Milan, Barcelona, Leicester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspurs.

One French source said: “Courted by several large British clubs, Victor Osimhen is particularly interesting for Liverpool. His representatives have entered into discussions with the Reds,” the website wrote.

“According to our information, discussions have recently opened between Liverpool and representatives of Victor Osimhen with the objective of laying the foundations for a first contractual proposal if the Reds ever send a transfer offer to Lille. Liverpool are thus taking a position on a file which has already changed considerably in recent months.”

It is believed that the remainder of the 2019/20 English season may be completed behind closed doors over the next few months. This is to enable clubs to prepare for the start of the new season by around September or October.
