66-year old Briton succumbs to coronavirus in Lagos bringing the number of national casualties to six

LAGOS State health commissioner Professor Akin Abayomi has revealed that a 66-year old Briton living in Nigeria has succumbed to the dreaded coronavirus pandemic and passed away  bringing the total number of national casualties to six.

In total, 254 people have been infected with coronavirus in Nigeria, the bulk of them having recently returned from abroad. All the others are people who have come in contact with those who recently returned to the country, be they diasporans or expatriates who recently returned to Nigeria.

According to Professor Abayomi, confirmed cases of coronavirus have now increased to 130 in Lagos State. Lagos accounts for about half of all cases in Nigeria, with the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja responsible for 50 infections, while the number of cases in Ogun State remains four with no new infections.

Professor Abayomi tweeted: “Lagos recorded another Covid-19 related death, a 66-year-old Briton, who travelled from India via Dubai to Lagos on March 17 2020. As of the 7th of April, 2020, there are 10 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed, bringing the total of Covid-19 cases in Lagos to 130.

“Another Covid -19 patient was discharged after full recovery, bringing the number of discharged patients to 32. Earlier, a 36-year-old Nigerian died of coronavirus on Saturday, April 4, in a private facility in Lagos."

Before then, a 55-year-old man died of coronavirus complications at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba on Friday, April 2. Residents of Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States are currently observing the 14-day lockdown and stay-at-home order of the federal government as part of measures to curb further transmission of the virus.
