Award-winning pharmacist Chima Olugh elected president of Ebonyi State Union UK and Ireland

AWARD-wining pharmacist and community leader Chima Olugh has been elected as the new president of the Ebonyi State Union UK and Ireland following its annual general meeting which held over the weekend.

 

Taking over the Dr Elias Igwe, who has served the association diligently for four years, Mr Olugh was sworn-in yesterday and assume office immediately. A former first vice chairman of the Central Association of Nigerians In the UK (Canuk), Mr Olugh won the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Public Health Pharmacist of the year in 2014.

 

Working as a manager with the National Health Service, Mr Olugh is a graduate of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu. Apart from serving as Canuk vice chairman, he has also worked on numerous committees and organising bodies of community events in the UK.

 

Mr Olugh said: "It is a great honour and privilege to be entrusted with this great responsibility and it is very humbling too. Ebonyi State has a vibrant community in the UK and we will continue to work hard to improve things back home in the state in Nigeria, which has always been one of our remit."

 

Current Canuk first vice president Ronke Udofia, added: "Chima is a very selfless and tireless worker who give his all for the community, not wanting anything in return. It is great that the Ebonyi State Union has recognised his dedication to service and have elected him to such an exalted position."

 

Upon assuming office, the first thing Mr Olugh did was book a table on behalf of the Ebonyi State Union at the Uncelebrated Nigerians Awards UK. Dr Igwe, who is touted as the next possible president of Ohaneze Ndigbo UK, is one of the 57 UNA awardees who will be honoured at the event taking place on Saturday September 30.
