Third case of coronavirus recorded in Nigeria as 30 year old lady returns from the UK affected

NIGERIA has recorded her third case of coronavirus today after a 30-year old lady who recently returned to the country from the UK tested positive in Lagos and was subsequently placed in isolation.

By and large, Nigeria has been free from the coronavirus pandemic as the two cases recorded so far have not led to fatalities, with both patients successfully recovering. Nigeria's first case involved an Italian middle aged man who was working at the Ewekoro Cement Plant in Ogun State but he has since been declared negative after being placed in isolation for several weeks.

This morning, the Lagos State health commissioner Dr Akin Abayomi, announced that a third case has been recorded. According to Dr Abayomi, the lady in question returned from the UK on March 13 and was in self-isolation, where she developed symptoms and eventually tested positive.

Dr Abayomi, who said her case is independent of the index case, added that the patient is currently receiving treatment at the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba. He also noted that contact tracing of all passengers and all those who may have come in contact with this latest case has commenced.

It is believed that the lady flew into Nigeria aboard a BA flight on March 13, so the authorities are looking for everyone who was onboard.  This development comes just days after the Lagos State government confirmed that the second case was now free of the virus.
