Ighalo says there is a surge in Nigerians now supporting Man United following his signing

FORMER Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has revealed that his recent signing for Manchester United has led to a surge in support for the club among Nigerians living in the UK with many of them now coming to watch the side.

During the January transfer window, Ighalo signed a six month loan deal with the Manchester side that will see him play at Old Trafford until the end of the season. This week, Ighalo scored his first goal for the club when they beat Belgian side Brugge 5-0 in a Europa League cup tie.

According to Ighalo, many Nigerians have started supporting Manchester United and even before last weekend's home game against Watford, many of them were spotted outside Old Trafford chanting his name. Ighal;o has taken to the club's official website to thank these fans for their support.

Ighalo said: "Many Nigerians are now supporting Man United as I'm the first Nigerian to play for the club. Even here in the UK, many are coming to watch the games, I saw them after the game yesterday, they were singing and dancing and it was great for me.

"It was great support for me and the team. Some people sent me some videos with what they were doing outside the stadium and I was very pleased with that.

"I stopped after the game and took pictures with them. I had to thank them for their support."
