Ogun and Lagos state governments quarantine facilities visited by the Italian coronavirus victim

NIGERIAN authorities have moved swiftly to shut down and quarantine the two premises where the Italian contract worker reported to have been infected with the dreaded coronavirus has visited since arriving in the country.

Earlier today, it was confirmed that an Italian man who recently arrived on a flight to Lagos has been confirmed as being infected with the virus. Apparently, the Italian man who is a Italian who is a consultant working with cement giant Larfarge Africa, which has a plant at Ewekoro in Ogun State, visited the facility, so it has been shut down.

On Tuesday, the Italian was said to have arrived on a flight from Italy and visited both the Ewekoro factory and the offices of Agip Saipem in Banana Island in Lagos. After the visits, he developed a fever and was treated at the Lafarge facility clinic before he was rushed to Lagos on Wednesday when his case grew worse.

Today, he has been confirmed as the first case of coronavirus in Nigeria and the authorities have acted fast, sealing off both facilities. In a swift reaction, the Ogun State government has said that the Larfarge cement factory has been quarantined and in Lagos, the Agip Saipem offices on Banana Island, has been locked down too.

Dr Tomi Coker, the Ogun State health commissioner, said a team of epidemiologists have commenced line listing to detect all contacts the victim made during his stay in the state. In Lagos State, the deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat, said they are trying to trace everyone who has been in contact with the Italian gentleman, including those who were on his flight.
