Mikel reveals that Emre's racial abuse was directed as his girlfriend and twin daughters

FORMER Super Eagles skipper Mikel Obi has revealed Turkish international Emre Belozoglu made derogatory comments about his Russian girlfriend and twin daughters during the nasty altercation that took place between them last weekend.

On Saturday, Mikel's Trabzonspor secured a 2-1 win at home over visiting Fernebahce in what was a bad-tempered Turkish league match. After the game, Mikel confronted the former Newcastle and Inter Milan player Emre to confront him for calling him a Nigger during the match.

This is not the first time that Emre has been accused of saying such to black players as he once did same to former Ivory Coast international Didier Zokora. Mikel has already filed a complaint with the Turkish Football Federation for necessary action to be taken against Emre with his club strongly behind him.

According to Mikel, the attacks were scary, especially the ones directed to his girlfriend Olga Diyachenko and four-year-old twin daughters. He added that he is happy with the positive response he has received from fans around the world and fellow footballers after he was racially attacked by the Fernebahce supporters.

Mikel said: “After the game on Saturday, I started getting messages on my Instagram, even my girlfriend started getting instant messages of racism and hatred, they were very scary messages towards me and my family and kids. There’s no place for this.

“I don’t think this should be happening and I think these people should be held responsible and they shouldn’t be allowed to come to games. I’m very disappointed with this, especially for my girlfriend, my family and my kids, who are only four years old.

“I have received messages indicating that I am not alone as I received messages from Galatasaray fans and from many people. I received messages stating that they were against the situation I had and messages from people who knew me from the world.

“In this society we live in, there should be no room for such things. We shouldn’t be talking about these things. We are all equal and we are all the same."

Since joining Trabzonspor in the summer as a free agent, Mikel has been one of the team’s most influential players this term, playing all 90 minutes in 14 appearances. Over the weekend, his team mates had to restrain him from hitting Emre after he suffered racial abuse.
