William Ekong signs improved deal with Udinese extending his contract by another year

SUPER Eagles centreback William Troost-Ekong has signed a new improved deal with his Italian clubside Udinese that extends his contract with the Serie A club until 2023 confirming his importance to the mid table team.

Ekong, 26, who was born in the Netherlands, was purchased from Turkish side Bursaspor in the summer of 2018 for €3.3m. So far this season, he has made nine Serie A appearances and one in the Coppa Italia, establishing himself as a stalwart of the team.

A key defensive figure for club and country, Ekong captained Nigeria in her last two matches against Ukraine and Brazil and is fast establishing himself as a centreback of repute. When he originally joined Udinese from Bursaspor, last year, he signed a four year deal and this has now been extended by another season.

Ekong took to his Twitter page to express how thrilled he was to extend the deal and has vowed to keep working hard to improve his game. He said: “Hello Bianconeri fans, I am very happy. I wait to see you at the stadium on Sunday.”

Since joining Udinese last year, the centre-back made 35 Serie A appearances for the club,

helping the club to a respectable 12th position. Born to a Nigerian father and Dutch mother, he was eligible to play for the Netherlands but opted for the Super Eagles instead.
