PDP Governors Forum to hold internally generated revenue summit in Abuja on October 30

MEMBERS of the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) Governors' Forum plan to hold an economic summit on boosting internally generated revenue (IGR)  in Abuja on October 30 as part of a plan end Nigeria's dependency on crude oil.

To be chaired by Peter Obi, the former Anambra State governor and PDP vice presidential candidate during the last elections, the summit will involve all of the party's 16 state governors. Now the country's main opposition party, since being voted out of office in 2015, the PDP has been criticised in the past for not coming up with alternative suggestions to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Organised by the PDP Governors Forum, the event is managed by Red Sapphire Nigeria, an integrated marketing communications company, in conjunction with Money Line on African Independent Television. It will involve debating a document known as  The Imperatives of Developing Internally Generated Revenue Options for State Governments in a Recessed Economy.”

According to the summit organising committee, it is expected to draw prominent resource persons with tested knowledge and expertise in IGR and the entire financial sector. Expected participants include state commissioners of finance, trade/investments, budget/economic planning, tourism and local governments/chieftaincy affairs.

Also in attendance will be national/state assembly committee chairmen on local governments whose input will generally provide statutory and parliamentary backing for the major determinants and considerations on IGR. Local government chairmen and secretaries will also be in attendance at the event which shall feature the Bayelsa State governor and chairman of PDP Governors Forum, Seriake Dickson as chief host, with the party chairman Prince Uche Secondus, as the special guest of honour.
