Victor Osimhen voted French Ligue One Player of the Month for September

SUPER Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been voted as the French Ligue One Player of the Month for September 2019 following his recent rich vein of form that him score seven goals for his clubside Lille this season.

Osimhen, 20, has been a sensation since joining Lille in the summer, scoring in every home game the club has played so far. He has also been Nigeria's main attacking threat, scoring from the penalty spot for the Super Eagles during a recent 2-2 draw with Ukraine and was also in fine form during last weekend's 1-1 draw with Brazil.

Tipped to become another great striker in the mould of Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o, Osimhen first hot the limelight in 2015 when he was the leading scorer at the U17 World Cup. This week, he was voted as the French player of the month with 45% of the vote, ahead of Monaco’s Islam Slimani who scored 37% and Nantes’ Nicolas Pallois who got18% of the vote.

In September alone, Osimhen was involved in four goals, for Lille, finding the back of the net twice and providing two assists. He found the net against Angers and Strasbourg and provided assists in matches against Rennes and Strasbourg.

With seven goals in nine appearances in the Ligue 1, Osimhen is the fourth highest goalscorer in the top five European Leagues, behind Bayern Munich’s Lewandowski with 11 goals and Manchester City’s Aguero and Chelsea’s Abraham, who both have eight goals. Several major European clubs are thought to be keeping an eye on him as he leads the French scoring chart.
