Uzoho expected to be out for at least six months after fracturing his anterior cruciate ligaments

SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho is expected to be out of action for at least six months after damaging his cruciate ligaments during Nigeria's recent 1-1 draw with Brazil in Singapore in an international friendly.

On Sunday, Uzoho was stretchered off in the 65th minute after he damaged his knee when he landed awkwardly after coming for a corner. He was replaced with debutant Maduka Okoye and subsequently given an MRI scan to determine the extent of his injury.

Omonia Nicosia, Uzoho's club where he is spending the 2019/20 season on loan from Deportivo de La Coruña, have confirmed that the goalkeeper has suffered a fractured anterior cruciate ligament. Although both clubs did not disclose how long the 20-year-old will be out of action, the estimated return from an injury of this nature is normally about six to nine months.

Sadly for Uzoho, his injury comes at a time when he is finally getting his career back on track after suffering from a drop in form. With him now out of action, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr needs to find a reliable replacement ahead of Nigeria's next two African Cup of Nations  qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho in November.
