Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria apologises for recent power cut at Lagos airport

FEDERAL Airports Authority of Nigeria (Faan) officials have apologised for the loss of power at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos last night that disrupted activities and brought operations to a halt.

Nigeria regularly suffers from power cuts and outages and government facilities like airports are not spared from the problem. Last night, operations at the Lagos airport were grounded for about an hour as the power cut prevented ticket bookings, checking-in and the departure of flights.

Henrietta Yakubu, Faan's general manager corporate communications, said that the agency regretted the disruption. She pointed out that Faan engineers were immediately mobilised to restore power to the public concourse.

Ms Yabubu said: “The airport on Wednesday experienced a minor power outage but our team of engineers has immediately swung into action and normalcy had been restored in the affected areas. Faan wishes to apologise to passengers, airlines and the general public for the inconvenience caused by this interruption."

She added that the authority is assuring airport users of safety and security at airports at all times. Faan had recently attributed incessant power outage at the airport to the ongoing construction work at the new terminal.
