Super Eagles players $175,000 better off after eliminating Cameroon as Aiteo boss rewards them

MEMBERS of the Super Eagles are $175,000 better off today after the managing director of energy giant Aiteo Benedict Peters honoured his pledge to reward them with $100,000 if they beat Cameroon and pay an extra $25,000 for each goal scored.

Yesterday, at the Alexandria stadium in Egypt, Nigeria's Super eagles beat the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 3-2 in the second round of the ongoing African Cup of Nations. In a tension-soaked tipsy turkey game, the Eagles took the lead but then went behind before rallying in the second half with goals from Odion Ighalo and Alex Iwobi to win the match.

Before the match, Mr Peters, whose company is a major operator in the Nigerian oil and gas sector,  promised to reward the players handsomely if they beat Cameroon and qualified for the quarter finals. Mr Peters was one of several high profile dignitaries who watched the game alongside the likes of Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwoolu and speaker of the Federal House of Representatives Hon Femi Gbajabiamila.

Following the victory, Nigeria will now face South Africa in the quarter finals after Bafana Bafana staged a huge upset by eliminating hosts and favourites Egypt 1-0 yesterday evening. So far, South Africa, Nigeria, Benin Republic and Senegal have qualified for the quarter finals and seeking to join them, today Madagascar with face the Democratic Republic of Congo, while Algeria will face Guinea, while tomorrow Ghana will lock horns with Tunisia and Mali and Ivory Coast will clash.
