Ondo State chapter of APC passes vote of confidence in Akeredolu as he receives national query

ONDO State's Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has received a vote of confidence from the local chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in response to him being queried by the national leadership over his role in the recent elections.

Earlier this month, Governor Akeredolu received a formal query from the APC national leadership over his role in the last general elections that saw the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) win in his domain. In February's presidential elections, the PDP presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar defeated President Buhari of the APC by 275,901 votes to 241,769.

In the National Assembly elections, too, the PDP came out tops, winning two of the three senatorial seats in the state, while ion the House of Representatives elections, the APC only won four of the nine seats. Governor Akeredolu has been accused of working against his own APC in the state by supporting some candidates of rival parties.

However, the local Ondo State chapter of the APC met over the weekend and passed a vote of confidence in Governor Akeredolu. They added that the governor’s strides in infrastructural development across the state as well as workers welfare and industrialisation gave him a pass mark.

Among other things, the APC's national working committee (NWC), had accused the governor that his alleged romance with Action Alliance, whose candidates he supported at the February 23 poll greatly affected the fortunes of its candidates in the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state. Dismissing this, however, board of trustees member Jamiu Ekungba and the APC South West chairman Bankole Oluwajana explained that Governor Akeredolu has made the next journey of the party easy.

They described Governor Akeredolu as a sellable candidate who has touched the lives of the people of the state meaningfully. Also the director-general of the Ondo State Technical Aid Corps, Pius Osunyikanmi said the governor has shown that he has vision for the state with his Midas Touch, especially on road construction and the reconstruction of public primary schools.

Ade Adetimehin, the state chairman of the party, urged members to be united and speak with one voice ahead of future elections in the state. Reacting, Governor Akeredolu thanked leaders of the party for the confidence reposed in him, assuring them that more dividends of good governance will be enjoyed across the board.

At the meeting were the deputy governor Agboola Ajayi, speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon Bamidele Oleyelogun, the chief of staff to the governor Chief Gbenga Ale and the secretary to the state government Ifedayo Abegunde, among others. It is not yet clear if Governor Akeredolu has responded to the query issued to him yet.
