Katsina man kills his friend and injures another while testing a native charm to see if it was bullet proof

MEN of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested a 43 year old man for killing one of his friends and severely injuring another after shooting them while testing the efficacy of native charms known as juju.

In bizarre accident, Mani Mohammed pulled the trigger while he and his friends were testing a native charm to see if it was bulletproof. He ended up killing Abubakar Hamisu, 40, who died of gunshot wounds and another friend, Rabe Salisu, 35, sustained gunshot injuries in the incident.

Both Mr Hamisu and Mr Salisu are from old Kwari village in the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, where the incident occurred. Mr Mohammed, who also resides in the same village reported himself to the Jibia Police Station on the day that the incident occurred and was subsequently arrested and charged to court.

Apparently, Mr Mohammed mistakenly pulled the trigger while attempting to collect the gun from the others, who were testing the efficacy of the bulletproof charm. After the gun fired, Messrs Hamisu and Salisu were rushed to the General Hospital, Jibia, where the former was certified dead, while the latter was treated and later discharged.

Mr Mohammed was arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court yesterday for causing grievous hurt and culpable homicide. According to the police, the offences were contrary to sections 246 and 222 (7) of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Lawal Bello, told the court that investigation was still in progress on the case. Presiding senior magistrate, Hajiya Fadila Dikko, adjourned the case to May 7, for mention and ruled that Mr Mohammed be remanded in prison custody till then.
