Governor Abiola Ajimobi fails to win Oyo South Senatorial District seat losing out to PDP

GOVERNOR Abiola Ajimobi has failed in his bid to get elected into the senate after he lost his quest to get elected as the lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District being defeated by Kola Balogun of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In the results announced in Ibadan by Professor Wole Akinsola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) returning officer, Governor Ajimobi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 92,218 votes to Dr Balogun's 105,720 votes. Dr Balogun was subsequently declared the winner and duly elected to represent Oyo South in the senate.

Governor Ajimobi, whose second term in office will lapse on May 29, 2019, had served as the Oyo South Senatorial District senator between 2003 and 2007 on the platform of Alliance for Democracy. He had planned to return to the senate at the end of his second tenure as governor but this will now not happen.

Professor Akinsola declared that Dr Balogun, a former Oyo State commissioner for commerce and cooperatives had secured the highest number of votes.  He also announced that the incumbent Senator Soji Akanbi of the African Democratic Congress scored 49,437 while the Action Democratic Party candidate, Dr Fola Akinosun got 13,149 votes.
