Benin bride-to-be fears that he planned wedding may now be in jeopardy due to election postponement

BENIN City bride-to-be Rita Osawende has expressed concern that her plans to get married may now be in jeopardy following today's decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) to postpone Nigeria's general elections.

Nigeria had been due to hold presidential and National Assembly elections today and governorship and state houses of assembly polls on March 2. However, at 2am this morning, Inec chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu announced that the presidential elections had been postponed until next Saturday, while the gubernatorial polls will now take place on March 9.

Miss Osawende had originally been due to get married today February 16 but moved the event to the 23rd because the initial date clashed with the elections. Now that the polls have been postponed again, she is fearful that they may end up scuppering her plans to get married altogether.

She added that all arrangements for her big day had been concluded for next week and with the postponement, she does not know what to do. Rescheduling the marriage will be difficult as all the literature has already been printed and the catering arrangements have been made.

“Inec please help me revisit this issue as the original date was fixed for February 16 but as soon as I knew it was elections day, it was postponed to February 23. What do I do as all arrangements have been made and I have printed and distributed my invitation cards for the wedding. I am so confused,” Miss Osawende added.
