Valentine's Day tragedy strikes in Nasarawa as two men die in altercation over young lady

VALENTINE'S Day tragedy struck in Obi town in the Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State yesterday when two young men were killed during a fight over a woman who they were both laying claims to.

Historically, Valentine's day has been an occasion during which men profess their love to their spouses and girlfriends and yesterday two men sought to lay claims to a young lady in obi. However, at about 10am yesterday, one of the lovers trailed his rival, whose name was given as Aliyu to the young lady's residence and stabbed him in the stomach.

Apparently, the unsuspecting Aliyu had offered his killer a handshake not knowing his rival was armed and wanted him dead. After stabbing him, his assailant attempted to run to safety but could not evade the rampaging irate youths who caught up with him, poured petrol on him and set him ablaze.

One family member of the late Aliyu who simply gave her name as Aisha said her brother was rushed to the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia. She added that upon arrival at the hospital, where incidentally his mother works at the casualty unit, her brother asked to see her before passing away.

Aisha added: “After our youths from Obi took him to the hospital, he said he wanted to see his mother, whose name is Hassana, who was also on duty yesterday morning. As soon the mother came into the casualty unit and held his hand he gave up the ghost."

Police spokesman Othman Ismaeel, said the incident was reported at the Obi Police station by the father of the late Aliyu, who said his son was 30 years old. He added that the police are on top of the situation.
