Rochas Okorocha boasts that he will succeed Buhari in 2023 becoming first elected Igbo president

GOVERNOR Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has vowed to become the next president of Nigeria in 2023 when President Muhammadu Buhari's second tenure expires boasting that he will become the first Igbo man to be elected to the position.

Due to end his tenure on May 29, Governor Okorocha is running for senate as an All progressives Congress (APC) candidate and is backing President Buhari for a second term in office. He added that when the president's second four year term ends, he will become the first person of Igbo extraction to be elected as the executive president of Nigeria.

Making the declaration when he hosted members of the Orlu zone of the Congress of Journalists, at the Government House, Owerri, Governor Okorocha said that all the campaigns of calumny against him was because his detractors have realised that he is the most eligible and most detribalised Igbo man in the country. He described himself as the rallying point for all Igbos and the only one who can bridge unity, understanding and togetherness in order to realise an Igbo presidency in 2023.

At the moment, however, Governor Okorocha is involved in a bitter spat with the APC leadership over who succeeds him in Imo State. He backed his son-in-law Uche Nwosu but the party opted for Senator Hope Uzodinma as the APC gubernatorial candidate in next February's elections.
