PDP senators rejoice is Ademola Adeleke takes oath of office showing off his dance steps

PEOPLE'S Democratic Party (PDP) senators were in jubilant mood yesterday as the newly-elected member representing Osun West Senatorial District Senator Ademola Adeleke was sworn-in amid laughter and jokes about his dancing prowess.

Dressed in a white agbada and an M-shaped cap, the signature dress of his late elder brother and predecessor, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the new legislator took the oath from the clerk to the senate, Nelson Ayewo in the presence of senate president Bukola Saraki. Senator Adeleke walked into the chamber at 11.19am, accompanied by his wife and children, to fill the seat held by his older brother until his death on April 23.

However, the ceremony took a dramatic turn when the deputy minority whip Abiodun Olujimi led Senator Adeleke round the chamber to introduce him to members of the PDP caucus. As this was ongoing, Senator Adeleke burst into his now popular dance steps, which generated laughter in the chamber.

Senator Godswill Akpabio, the chairman of the PDP senate caucus, said: “It is my privilege to introduce to you the newest member of our caucus who has just been sworn-in. Out of 10 local government areas, he swept nine, he came out of the lion’s territory unscathed in Osun State.

“It signalled the fact we have always known, that from 2016 Osun people have turned to the PDP. They demonstrated that with the election of our brother, Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke.”

Before the by-election, Senator Adeleke had defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP and then went on to defeat the APC candidate and choice of Governor Raufu Aregbesola, Mudashiru Hussain. He was issued a certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday.
