Rohr refuses to accept Moses' retirement and plans to talk him into returning to the Super Eagles

SUPER Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has refused to accept Chelsea wingback Victor Moses' retirement from international football and plans to hold talks with the player in a bid to get him to change his mind.

Last week, Moses, 27, announced his retirement from international football, saying that he now wants to concentrate on his club career and his family. However, Mr Rohr is not happy with the decision and plans to hold talks with Moses with a view to getting him to return to the Super Eagles as the team steps up its qualification for the 2019 African cup of Nations.

Speaking yesterday, Mr Rohr said he plans talks with the player over the coming weeks, adding that he is hopeful of getting Moses to return to the fold. He added that Moses, the Super Eagles' designated penalty taker, is one of the senior players in the squad, whose presence is highly appreciated.

Mr Rohr said: "We have to respect his decision but I will meet with him to discuss it. He is one of the leaders we have in the team and we will like him to be with us and I believe he will give it a second thought."

During an international career that spanned six years, Moses, who joined the national team in 2012, scored 12 goals in 37 appearances for the Super Eagles. He was also instrumental in the Super Eagles winning the African Cup of Nations in 2013 and qualifying for two World Cups in 2014 and 2018.
